the Adoption of Ranked Choice Voting
Arlington County took a welcome step towards a fairer electoral system by endorsing the adoption of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for the primaries for the County Board of Supervisors. Of course, this does not apply to the general election, but we do not make the perfect the enemy of the good. We would instead encourage Arlington and every other city and county in Virginia to fully adopt RCV or similar system for all single winner elections, to encourage honest expression of political positions as well as foster true consensus candidacies over “lesser evil” choices.
